Vacuum to blower: How it works

User turns center cylinder to change direction of air flow. By manually turning the handle so that the red side matches the correct icon, the user can choose between vacuum and air blowing modes.

External Battery System: How it works

To improve battery life, a system for an external battery was integrated into the design. The external 12V battery is larger than those traditionally built into handhelds, giving a longer life at the expense of a little extra weight. When the battery does inevitably run dry, however, it can be quickly swapped for a new, fully-charged one instantly.

The result is a vacuum that one can use continuously while the batteries charge independently.

Ergonomics

The Dyson Duo has no top or bottom. The entire body is designed symmetrically to allow for inverted use. The large, rounded handle-hoop allows the user to hold the vacuum at whatever angle suits his cleaning purposes best. It can be held from the top, from the back, or anywhere in-between. This allows the user to position the extra-long barrel above or below any tight spaces.

Variable tools

The tools can also be reconfigured to accommodate an array of cleaning circumstances, such as:

Extend air blower nozzle to get into tough-to-reach areas that are far too narrow to clean otherwise.

Slanted vacuum end cap can be inserted upside down to maintain suction when used in downwards orientation.
